Find out about

Hair is as diverse as we are, and understanding the unique needs of different hair types is the key to gleaming, healthy strands. Whether your hair is straight as a pin or coils like a spring, here's our guide to taking care of your specific hair type.

Straight Hair (Type 1)

Straight hair, also known as Type 1, is characterized by strands that lay flat from roots to ends. The absence of curls or waves allows natural oils from the scalp to travel down the hair shaft, often leaving this hair type shiny but prone to oiliness. To maintain the luster without the greasiness, use a balancing shampoo to cleanse without over-stripping your hair's natural oils. A lightweight conditioner on the mid-lengths and ends will keep your hair manageable and frizz-free.

Wavy Hair (Type 2)

Wavy hair, or Type 2, is more than just straight or curly; it's a stunning middle ground. It's generally divided into three subtypes: 2A (loose, slight waves), 2B (more defined waves), and 2C (defined waves that start at the roots). The key to caring for wavy hair is enhancing those waves while combating frizz. Use a moisturizing shampoo to hydrate your hair, and opt for a curl-enhancing product to help define your wave pattern.

Curly Hair (Type 3)

Curly hair (Type 3) forms distinct S-shaped curls and can be categorized into 3A (large, loose curls), 3B (medium curls), and 3C (tight corkscrew curls). This hair type often needs a little extra TLC because it can be prone to dryness and frizz. Invest in a hydrating shampoo and a conditioner rich in nourishing oils. A quality curl cream, moose or foam, or gel can help define your curls and keep them frizz-free.

Coily or Kinky Hair (Type 4)

Coily, or kinky hair, known as Type 4, is characterized by a tight curl pattern that often forms a Z-shape. This can be further divided into 4A (soft coils), 4B (Z-shaped kinks), and 4C (tight kinks, often with little to no defined pattern). This hair type is often dry and delicate, so it's crucial to use moisturizing products that strengthen and protect the hair. Opt for moisturizing shampoos for gentle cleansing, deep conditioning treatments to hydrate, and oil-based stylers to lock in moisture.
